Human Rights Day - The Right to Safe and Appropriate Nutritional Care

On December 10th, Human Rights Day, EFAD highlighted the importance of the Budapest Resolution: The Dietitian’s Role in Supporting the Human Right to Safe and Appropriate Nutritional Care for Every European Citizen. The Budapest Resolution underlines the right to health and nutrition as a cornerstone of human dignity and well-being, making it more crucial than ever in today’s challenging global landscape.

EFAD calls on policymakers, healthcare professionals, and communities to unite to ensure that no one is left behind. By advocating for equitable access to safe and appropriate nutritional care, dietitians play a pivotal role in enabling every citizen to exercise their right to adequate nutrition. Let’s build a future where nutritional care is recognized and respected as a fundamental human right, fostering healthier, more resilient populations across Europe.

EFAD Projects Updates

Eat Well to Age Well Workshop - PROMED-COG

On November 28th, the Eat Well to Age Well Workshop was held at the Centre for Public Health, Queen’s University Belfast. Hosted by Dr. Claire McEvoy and Nicola Ann Ward, the workshop highlighted the latest findings from the PROMED-COG project, focusing on barriers to healthy eating for older adults and the potential scalability of the PROMED-EX program.

Representing EFAD, Katarzyna Janiszewska, EFAD Lead in Project Management, participated in discussions alongside clinicians, researchers, policymakers, Public Health Agency (PHA) representatives, patient/public representatives, and dietitians. The diverse perspectives contributed to dynamic conversations on evidence-based strategies to support healthy ageing.

As the PROMED-COG project nears completion, EFAD's next steps involve disseminating materials on the PROtein-enriched MEDiterranean diet. These resources, designed to assist dietitians in their daily practice, will be published on EFAD Learning.

Nutrition in Children and Adolescents

Changing lifestyles is difficult. Children and young people who need to make dietary changes, for example, to prevent illness, are ‘at the mercy’ of their parents. The parents are the ones who plan, shop, and prepare the food, and they are also the ones who set limits for their children. The parents’ knowledge of health and nutrition, and not least their own relationship with the body and food, will often have an impact on the choices they make for their children when it comes to food.
